Letters to the President #1238: ‘Cliff diving’

Reporter’s Note: I hope President Obama is having a nice Sunday. And I hope my daily letter makes it even nicer. But I would not count on that.

Dear Mr. President,

Remember those wonderful moments in the old Roadrunner cartoons when the relentless Wile E. Coyote would fall off a cliff; land on a branch, trampoline, or keg of dynamite; and get launched high into the air…only to fall off the cliff again.

Unfortunately, as much fun as it was to watch, it is a lot less pleasant to experience.

Seems like everyone in D.C. these days is talking about the economic cliff we are heading for by year’s end, unless something dramatic changes. Everyone seems to blame it on an array of things: business jitters, tax cuts (or the lack of them,) Europe’s troubles, the price of energy, yadda yadda yadda. I’ve read all the articles. I’ve considered…
